Snapshots or portraits? Often we tend to attribute more quality to the latter than the former. To be honest, I don’t think it is worth to merit the discussion on that aspect. For me, it is all about time.
Snapshots are the present and the past. You’re documenting and capturing something that is taking place in front of you at the moment of the click. It is spontaneous and at times unpredictable. Portraits, on the other hand, are about the future. You use the photograph and the subject to create a carefully scripted narrative. It is improvisation vs scripted acting.
To be honest, I don’t take portraits, I only take snapshots. Friends, colleagues, family & strangers that cross my way.
